Sniq does not collect anything, and it cannot reach the internet. Your photos and your sound stay on your phone.
No data is collected
Sniq has no accounts, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party services. It never asks who you are and it has no way of knowing.
The app has no internet access
Sniq does not request Android's internet permission. The system will not let it open a network connection at all, so there is no server for anything to be sent to. This is not a promise about how we behave, it is a property of the app that anyone can check by looking at the permissions it declares.
The camera and the microphone
While the camera screen is open, Sniq keeps the last few seconds of sound in the phone's memory. That is what lets the sound from just before you press the shutter survive, so you are never late to it.
That audio is held in memory only. It is continuously overwritten by the sound that comes after it, and it is discarded when you leave the camera screen or the app goes to the background. Nothing is written to storage until you press the shutter. Sniq never records in the background.
What is stored, and where
When you press the shutter, Sniq saves on your phone: the photograph, the finished clip, and the few seconds of sound around the shot, which is what allows the sound to be re-framed later. A copy of the clip is also placed in your phone's gallery, so that other apps can find it.
All of it stays on your device. None of it is uploaded, backed up by us, or seen by anyone else.
Sharing
Nothing leaves your phone unless you choose to send it, using Android's own share sheet. Once you send a clip to another person or another app, what happens to it from there is governed by that app or service, and no longer by Sniq.
Location
Sniq never asks for location permission, so nothing it produces carries coordinates.
The permissions it asks for
- Camera, to take the photograph.
- Microphone, to capture the sound around it.
- Storage, on Android 9 and older only, to place a copy of the clip in the system gallery. Newer versions of Android do not need it.
Deleting your data
Clips can be deleted one by one inside the app. Uninstalling Sniq removes everything it stored. Because nothing was ever sent anywhere, there is nothing held elsewhere for us to delete.
Children
Sniq is not directed at children.
If this changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If some future version of Sniq ever sends anything off your phone, it will be said here first, in plain words, and it will not happen without you choosing it.
